Why Support the Override?

Vote YES on Prop 414, the Tucson Unified School District override measure, to restore crucial funding for Tucson’s schools which the politicians in DC and Phoenix can’t touch. This investment strengthens academic achievement by raising teacher salaries to attract and retain high quality educators, supports career-focused programs, fully staffs PE and fine arts at all elementary schools, and expands early childhood education like pre-k as well as before- and after-school programs.

Prop 414 Supports:

  • Quality teachers are key to an excellent classroom experience, yet Tucson Unified lacks the funding to pay competitive salaries that can train and attract them. Funds raised by this override will increase teacher salaries, making sure our students can learn, graduate, and are prepared with the skills they need to get a job or go to college.

  • Override funds would maintain and expand specialized classes - like art and physical education in elementary schools or automotive and construction technology classes in high school. TUSD override funds support students looking to go to college or right into the workforce after graduating.

  • Prop 414 will ensure schools have sufficient counselors and all high schools have social workers to help students with behavioral problems, educate students about the mental health impacts of social media, and provide at-risk students with alternative education programs.

  • Research shows that early childhood education programs are important because they put young children on the pathway to learn and succeed. Before- and afterschool programs provide safe and supervised activities as well as tutoring and mentoring that help keep students in school, safe, and on track to graduate.

Why it Matters

TUSD serves over 40,000 students across 88 schools and 231 square miles.

This year, nearly $1 billion is being taken away from Arizona public schools and put into private schools.

Politicians in Phoenix and Washington, DC are threatening to cut funding to local districts like TUSD and are trying to abolish the US Department of Education.

Tucsonans need to come together to support our local schools.
